The Silchar Water Supply Scheme is situated on the Hailakandi Road opposite the Meherpur Branch of Punjab National Bank, Near ASTC Campus, Silchar. It was administratively approved vide Approval No. UDD(M)19/95/39 dated October 25, 2000 under the NLCPR (Non-lapsable Central Pool of Resources) Fund with a project cost of 12.03 crores.
The scheme was commissioned in the year 2006 under the Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board (AUWSSB). Water from the scheme is supplied to consumers through direct pumping by a 100HP pump on one side and through an Overhead Reservoir on another side. Raw water is pumped from the river Barak and it is treated by the conventional method of aeration, flocculation / sedimentation, filtration and disinfection before releasing to consumers.

The Silchar Water Supply Scheme was handed over to the Silchar Municipal Board in March 2022 as per an order from the Government of Assam. Since then the project is being maintained by the Silchar Municipal Board.
